Directive on EPF Pension

The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has instructed the government to replicate the government pension model for Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) pensioners also.

This would ensure that an EPF pensioner who commutes his pension gets the full amount after 15 years. “The order by Justice J B Koshy came on a petition filed by N Susheelan. Denial of pension benefits enjoyed by government employees to EPF pensioners is tantamount to violating Article 14 of the Constitution,” the Commission said in its order.

The Commission also issued notices to the Union Labour Secretary, Union Labour Commissioner, the Central Provident Fund Commissioner and the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner on the issue.
